Class Schedule

Capoeira Besouro Hawaii classes are open to all ages and levels. There are beginner and mixed level/intermediate classes for adults. Both styles of capoeira, Angola and Regional, are taught in class. Music and dance classes are also available.
 
In Music Classes, students learn to play the berimbau, atabaque (drum), agogo (bell) and pandeiro (tambourine), as well as sing capoeira songs. Several different berimbau rhythms are taught. Berimbaus available for purchase in class. On the atabaque and agogo, students learn capoeira, maculele, and samba de roda rhythms. On the pandeiro, students learn capoeira and samba de roda.
 
In "Dance Brasil" classes, students learn Samba (Rio and Bahia style), Afro Brazilian dance, orixa and folkloric dances, and Brazilian funk. Emphasis is placed on teaching choreographed dances. Students are invited to participate in shows. Dance class open to all levels, - capoeira and non-capoeira students are welcome.
 
For children, ages 2 - 13 ,we offer specialized classes that teach capoeira through fun and games.
 
New students and visiting capoeira students from other academies are welcome in our academy. Classes at Kailua Movement Studio and Boca Hawaii are ongoing. Students are welcome to join in and start at any time. A registration form will be completed the first time the student comes to class. There are 3 terms for the classes at the University of Hawaii- Manoa and Kailua Rec Center; Fall, Spring and Summer. Registration for the University of Hawaii class is through the Outreach College under the Non-credit courses/ Health and Fitness at www.outreach.hawaii.edu. Registration for the Kailua music class is done in person in class or at the Kailua Recreation Center. For questions or more information, use the contact form on the contact page.
 
Uniforms are worn in class. After the first month of training, students are required to wear the capoeira uniform which is available for purchase in class.
